Reading Comprehension and Written Language Challenges
Learn About Reading Comprehension and Written Language Challenges
A reading comprehension disorder is a type of learning disability in which an individual has difficulty understanding and interpreting written text, despite having normal intelligence and often adequate word reading skills. It affects the ability to make meaning from what is read. These challenges go beyond just reading the words—they involve understanding vocabulary, recalling details, identifying main ideas, making inferences, and integrating information.

Executive Function/Cognitive Therapy/Attention Deficit Disorders
Learn About Executive Function/Cognitive Therapy/Attention Deficit Disorders
These refer to a set of mental skills that help us plan, focus attention, remember instructions, manage time, regulate emotions, and juggle multiple tasks effectively. These skills are governed by the frontal lobe of the brain, which continues developing well into the mid-20s. In teenagers, executive function, for example, is crucial for academic performance, social success, emotional regulation, and independence—but it can also be an area of struggle, especially during adolescence when the brain is still maturing.
